Gilbert Parts Depot is a family-owned auto, industrial, and hardware parts business serving British Columbia’s North Okanagan, Shuswap, and West Kootenays. What began as a single storefront in Vernon in 1982 has grown into seven locations across the region — built on the same idea it started with: quality parts backed by people who know them.

MEET THE OWNERS

Gilbert Parts Depot is proudly owned and run by Shelly Gilbert and her sons Tyler and Brennan Plante — a second and third generation carrying on the business started by INSERT Name & Marcia Gilbert. Based out of the Vernon head office, they lead a team across all seven locations with the same hands-on, know-your-customer approach that’s defined Gilbert Parts Depot for over four decades.

Our story

The Gilbert family opened their first store in Vernon in 1982 under the Mitchell Auto Parts banner, switching to NAPA Auto Parts in late 1985. Over the next decade, the NAPA banner served two Vernon stores along with locations in Armstrong, Lumby, and Enderby. The Vernon stores were sold in 1996.

In 2000, after a 19-year relationship with NAPA, the company took on its own name and identity: Gilbert Parts Depot. Growth continued, and in 2003 the company re-entered the Vernon market.

To support family succession planning, Gilbert Parts Depot restructured in January 2018, continuing operations in Armstrong, Lumby, and Enderby. (The former Vernon Waddington Drive store took on a new banner and now operates as Bumper to Bumper.)

Growing Across the Region

On January 1, 2020, Gilbert Parts Depot acquired Taylor-Wilton in Nelson — a business that had served the community since the 1940s — as its fourth location. Later that year, on October 31, 2020, the company moved into the former downtown NAPA location in Salmon Arm, stepping in after NAPA closed its corporate store following more than 35 years of service to the community.

In 2023, Gilbert Parts Depot returned to Vernon, taking over the former Central Hardware building at Okanagan Landing on 25th Avenue. Today this location serves as the head office and central warehouse for all seven stores, as well as a full retail outlet — carrying home, garden, hardware, tools, equipment, and auto and industrial supplies, and helping fill the one-stop-shop gap left in southwest Vernon when the hardware store closed.

In May 2024, the company opened its seventh location in Nakusp, sitting roughly halfway between Lumby and Nelson. It completed what the team calls the “trapline” — a stretch of coverage running from Salmon Arm to Nelson — giving Gilbert Parts Depot a solid footprint across the North Okanagan, Shuswap, and West Kootenays.

More Than an Auto Parts Store

From automotive and industrial parts to hardware, tools, and everyday home and garden essentials, Gilbert Parts Depot offers the selection of a much larger retailer with the service only a local, family-run business gives. Seven locations, one team, and more than four decades of knowing exactly what our communities need.
